MAIN SHOWS
The main shows
are held outside the east gopuram of the temple. The 16-pillar mantap offering
the backdrop.
On a stage here, shows are held in the evening.
On Jan. 5, a 40 violinists concert by by the CARVA Academy, Chennai,
will be held soon after a nadaswaram concert by Mylai R. Mahendran and party.
Then comes a folk arts show by 15 artistes - mayil attam, kavadi, karagattam
and more.
On Day 2, puppeteer Seethalakshmi will use her giant leather puppets
to stage a drama with them, titled ' Seethanveshanam' followed by a repeat
of the first day's folk shows.
On Day 3, the stilt artistes will perform on the main Mada streets,
followed a Tamil street theatre show by Chennai Kalai Kuzhu. Then comes a
Hindu mythological drama in thamizh - Ramayanathil Oru Iravu'.Such performances
are rarely staged nowadays. And the artistes are mostly from the city.
On the final day, there will be Bharatanatyam and Kalaripayattu performances
by child artistes from TN and Kerala, who return from a fest in Spain. This
is presented by Aseema Trust. The Chennai Kalai Kuzhu will present a full
fledged street theatre. The big show is the concert of vintage Tamil films
songs of T. M. Soundararajan, the music great. This is presented by Madhu's
Viswarag troupe.
