Art Contest For Kids

Daily (Jan. 21 to 24, 2010) from, 5 pm onwards, at Nageswara Rao Park. Open to kids in class 4 to 6. Bring all art materials you require. Topic will be given on the spot everyday.

Chess Tournament for kids

A chess competition for children is being hosted as part of Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival since 2009

This year it will take place on Jan. 8 and 9, 2011. At 7.45 am. Venue: Chess Square, Nageswara Rao Park. Open to first 52 children in the age group of 8 to 12 years.
Participants must bring their own Chess Boards and coins.

Kolam Contests

On Jan. 8 and 9, 3.30 pm. People are invited to design traditional 'pulli' kolam in designated spaces on North Mada Street. Open to 125 people, first come first serve.
Your kolam can be of a chain pattern or a design by joining the dots. You can create a design of your own.
Only white kolam powder should be used and use of colours or 'Rangoli' is not permitted.

Pallankuzhi Contest

On Jan 8, 2011 at 5 pm. At Lady Sivaswamy Iyer Girls' School, Sundareswarar Street. You must bring your own Pallankuzhi board and shells to the event and play with the person drawn by lots in a given time. Winners will be chosen by top scores. Prizes for two age groups. No registration required.

Adu Puli attam Contest

On Jan 9, 2011 at 1.30 pm. At Lady Sivaswamy Iyer Girls' School, Sundareswarar Street. You must bring your own coins or shells to the event and play with the persons drawn by lots in a given time. Winners will be chosen by top scores. Prizes for two age groups. No registration required.

Quiz

The Mylapore Quiz covers everything to do with people, places, streets and bylane and trivia about Mylapore and its neighbourhood ( includes San Thome!). Written test for prelims. Final feature six teams. Team can be made of 2 people, any age group.
On Jan. 9, 2011 at 3.00 pm at Lady Sivaswamy Iyer Girls' School.

Open to teams of two. No registration. Be at the venue at 3.00 pm sharp.

The Mylapore Hunt is a fun event but will need your enthusiasm, energy and knowledge of the area.

On Jan. 2, 2011 Sunday

Meet at 3.30 pm, Briefing at 3.45 pm, flag-off at 4 pm. Report back at 5.30 pm.
Start, end point - Nageswara Rao Park, Luz

How the contest works:

The contest is open to teams of three. The team will be given clues sheet on the spot. You need to use the clues to get to different landmarks in the Mylapore - Santhome area, seek answers to questions we have given in the clues and submit at end point. Everybody must reach endpoint at 5.30 pm. (Submission of latecomers will not be entertained)

Teams with most number of correct answers will prizes. Teams will not be judged by the time they take to crack the clues.

MUST BRING:

Vehicle you wish to travel by, sheets of paper and pens, water bottle. Use of car is not permitted.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

1. Participation in teams of three (Age limit - above 15 years)
No registration required.

2. Teams must obey traffic rules. Organisers are not responsible for behaviour of teams in the public place.

Children studying in class 6 to 12 are eligible to participate.

- We will give you a sheet featuring the pattern of dots given here.
- Use your creativity to join the dots to make a kolam-rangoli with patterns you like and colour it. Duration 45 minutes.

(Start with 15 dots and end with 8 dots on either side. Dots in between two dots of the previous row)

- Use all the dots give and leave no dot unused. Do not add any extra dots. (Patterns made using extra dots will be disqualified)

- Bring your own pencils and colours. We will give you a printed sheet with dots.

Below is the sample design we have created for you. The pattern of dots given on the right is what will be given to you on the contest day. You  can create a design of your own to prepare for the contest.

T-Shirt Design Contest - Open to all. Click here for result

On Dec. 12, 2010. At 3.30 p.m.

At Nageswara Rao Park (Chess Square).

We want to choose a design for the T shirt for the Fest. And we want creative people to be part of it. At the contest, we will provide a simple outline of a motif designed by the well known artist, V V Ramani of Chennai. The motif will be on chartboard. You need to work on it on it at the contest venue. Bring whatever you need to make a great design. Water colours, crayons, paints. . use whatever you wish to.
The best design will get a hamper of gifts and a Tee and certificate.
Prizes and certificates for 2 other best entries. The design will be used for a Tee.

We want you to show us what will make simple and yet attractive souvenirs for the Fest. Bags, coffee mugs, kites, lamps, wall hangings . . .You need to bring along the product you have in mind and sheets that carry the designs you may want the product to feature - on chart boards. You will be given 2 mins to make a presentation in public. Make sure the souvenir is simple, costs about Rs.100 and is easy to produce! Prizes and certificates for best 3 creatives presented ( to be awarded later) Open to first 20 people who register at mylaporefestival@yahoo.com
